Hilton Head, South Carolina
We are spending two weeks on this gorgeous island. The first thing that caught us by surprise was the alligator and snake warnings. At camp we must keep dogs on a six foot leash at all times and make sure you walk with a flashlight after dark because snakes are on the street in the shrubs and under the pine mulch. eek… Oh and they just had to remove a gator a couple days ago. One of my favorite parts of this cool beach town is that pups are allowed on the beach off leash before 10am and after 5pm every day. Gypsy loves fetching sticks into the ocean and crashing into they waves. Oliver loves sniffing washed up jelly fish and chasing seagulls as far as he can run. They both enjoy people by going up to greet as many as possible. Gypsy gives them a leaner hug and Oliver gives them a lick on the shin. The people love it!
There are tons of bike trails all over the island. You can rent them or if you have your own you can bike any where you want to go. We took the bikes to Pinckney Island for a day of riding the trails and bird watching and we say more than birds! We saw a huge gator right on the edge of the water sunning itself just 30 feet away from us!
The weather is nice in the 70s and 80s and its May. Today on Jeffs lunch break we headed to Barnacle Bills fresh fish market to pick up some fresh grouper to cook on the grill this evening. We will do a shrimp boil one night too.
Took a day trip to Savannah and walked the Savannah River. What a cool area filled with restaurants, bars and shops and local musicians playing a tune. We stopped at a candy store and enjoyed some decadent chocolate and then to a rooftop bar to get a better view of the water.
A day in Harbor Town was fun! It’s at the other end of Hilton Head Island. It’s filled with gorgeous golf courses, bike trails, parks and a marina. We walked around the marina area to shops, the light house and then stopped for lunch at a fish restaurant overlooking the water with the pups. Delicious food and beautiful views made us linger a bit on our lunch date. After lunch we checked out South Beach Marina and stopped for ice cream at The Salty Dog Ice cream Factory.
The first week of this trip Jeff worked but the second week he took vacation and we played hard! It was really nice for Jeff to get some time off to just chill. We concluded our trip by renting skiff boats and doing some dolphin watching. We were lucky enough to spot quite a few!
