Niagra Falls, NY
We set up camp in Darien Lakes State Park just outside of Niagra in a very rural area. Farm land surrounded the park for miles and miles. Although its June you would think it is spring here with everything in bloom, trees pollinating, and temperatures in the 70’s. We’ve done some nice hikes throughout the park during our stay.
Our first tour out of camp was to visit the Erie Canal in the town of Lockport. We stopped for dinner at Lock 34 Bar & Grill for some hot wings and beers and then headed to see the Locks. With so much history here we really enjoyed this stop.
Next stop Niagra Falls! Isn’t that why we are here? Wow! You think your going to see some waterfall that are historic but the power of this natural wonder will blow your mind! The first evening we went to see the falls lit up as a firework show was put on overhead. This was pretty magnificent and they do it every evening at 10 pm. We also took an elevator down to a cave that we walked through to come out at the bottom of the falls. We did a little hiking tour on a man made platform where we were right in the powerful water. They give you a poncho and sandals to wear but we were still soaked underneath. It was totally worth it!
The next day when we went back to Niagra Falls State Park we took a boat ride on The Maid of the Mist right into the center of the Falls! I got tears from the magnitude of beauty! Jeff was astounded as well! Next we took a trolly ride around town to catch the local vibe. Then did a brief stop at the aquarium. On our way back to camp we stopped at Woodcock Brothers Brewery/ for a delicious pizza and beer tasting.
Looking for a little more exploring before we left this area we found Letchworth State Park! This park is know as the Grand Canyon of the east coast! Letchworth was filled with huge waterfalls and great hiking trails. This is a great vacation destination for anyone looking to get away from it all and be surrounded in natures natural beauty.
