Tucked in Wompatuk

We are now at Wompatuk State Park in Hingham, Massachusetts just outside of Boston. This is a cozy state park with lots of trees providing shade and trails for hiking. This is our home for the week and it suits us just fine.

We took a day trip to Cape Cod to explore the peninsula. With water everywhere we had beautiful views. One thing that caught us off guard is the “Beware of Sharks” signs on and around every beach. I guess there is a huge shark population here! We did see people in the water but very close to the edge.

We came across a “hip” little beach town called Province Town. You could tell that was the place to be with the water in the background and people everywhere walking dogs and hanging out in cute little restaurants and beach shops.

We had our dear friend Jeremy Dolphin come join us at Wompatuk for a few days from Virginia. We had some fun cookouts at camp and headed into Boston on the train one evening.

Our journey into Boston

Took the subway into Boston for a night on the town. We got off at Downtown Crossing which is right in the middle of the shopping district. It felt like a very nice, clean and safe area. We journeyed through shops, history, and culture, passing a few live musicians, the original CHEERS bar and street peddlers to find ourselves at the beautiful Boston Harbor! The water was covered with fine sail boats and motor boats of all makes and models.

We continued our walk to discover Paul Revere’s home.

Then we walked to the Little Italy neighborhood that definitely held true to its name. Jeff and I visited Italy a year ago for a few weeks and this area brought us back. The streets were lined with bakeries, gelato shops and Italian restaurants that were open air to the street with people lined up waiting for someone to leave so they could get a table. We enjoyed the culture and then found a restaurant to dine in that had a live accordion player playing very nostalgic Italian tunes. Our hot bread, fine wine, fresh rocket salad and entrees were all exceptional! We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience.

As we traveled the streets of Boston back to the subway station we didn’t leave little Italy without stopping for a typical Italian desert of gelato. Our late night walk was lit by the beautiful skyline in all its glory. Thank you Boston! Until next time…
