December in Gulf Shores, Alabama
From sunrise to sunset December was a great month to be in Gulf Shores, Alabama! We thought we would spend our last month of the year in Florida but found out we were too late in planning. When nothing was available there we checked out the coast of Alabama. Not really knowing much about the state, this place has been such a magnificent find! A hidden gem with its white sands and blue waters…Ahhhh so refreshing!
We found cozy little bars and restaurants on the beach and even found a dog friendly beach for the pups to play in the sand.
Jeff fished in the ocean, in the bay, from docks and piers….he fished with artificial lures, frozen bait, and fresh shrimp…the man fished and he fished….and all he caught were two sting rays! Must have been the time of year. Ha Ha! He will try again!
Check out the sign above my dogs! I had them out there as bait until I realized it and called them in! I google dog parks everywhere we go and this one was the first one I found in the area. There wasn’t a soul there when we arrived. I let the dogs off and then read those sign and we left. I found another dog park close by that was packed with dogs and people and I asked them about the alligator dog park. The locals let me know that they don’t go to the alligator dog park because so many dogs have been eaten! WOW was my reaction! We didn’t go back needless to say.
Now that we are trying to stay in places for a month at a time I like to find a local yoga studio to join and that’s where I get all the good insider info. I found a studio called Glow Yoga that had an array of classes every day! The instructors were educated and informative and the classes were fun. I met a lot of neat people so when Jeff asked me to get a recommendation for the best fish market everyone said go to Pensacola to Joe Patti ! So we did! We took a day trip toured the area and went to the best fish market either of us had ever been to in our lives! Its a must do when you’re in the area!
Along the way we stopped at a bar called Flor-Bama that is on the Alabama Florida line. Its on the beach and few stories tall with live music and other events every day! We visited a place called The Gulf which was really groovy. It was made out of shipping containers and done very classy chic/ rustic beach. The gulf had a restaurant, bar, shops, campfires, and a vegetarian walk up food spot. So we got a cocktail, found a cozy chair and looked out at the ocean. We took another day to do downtown Pensacola! The downtown has a lot of culture for sure.
My birthday in December so we celebrated at a local Italian restaurant with a pizza and wine. Jeff knows what I like. Besides my birthday, I think we ate seafood every single day! We celebrated Christmas while we were there too. The Christmas tree above was made of beer kegs. We watched a night Christmas parade downtown as well as a lit up Christmas boat parade!
We took a ferry to Dauphin Island for the day to scope it out. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city life you feel the difference as soon as you step foot on the shore. It’s known for beach combing, swimming, fishing, shelling, kayaking, paddle boarding, crabbing, surfing and relaxing. We mostly did the last one. It was a quiet island that we contemplated living on and then we left.
Christmas Day we spent on the beach collecting seashells, drinking mimosas, and swimming in the ocean! It was a very peaceful and restful way to spend the holiday.
I Love you guys story. Absolutely Love it
